Just recieved this today. Havent watched it all yet, just bits and pieces but i am impressed with the PQ on this film. And finally i get a platinum edition with a slipcover!........and 3 discs! Really looking forward to sitting down and paying attention. And yes the reviews are true.....the DVD version is cut slightly during one of the songs, only one word is omitted but no one knows why. Its also taken away from the subtitles so that leaRAB me to believe its deliberate.

Is this the way Disney are going? Taking little bits and pieces out of the DVD versions yet making sure sure the BD version is completely uncut? I hope not but i certainly hope when other classics are released (especially Fantasia) that such material.......even the slightly racist stuff is left intact and uncut. Its little things like this that can build up and it just shows how companys are giving Blu Ray the edge over DVD.

I've not heard anything has been cut. I can't see why the would in this film. The only one they have misguided reservations about is Song of the South.

I will be picking up this DVD though.

EDIT: You are correct - from UltimateDisney:

Yep thats it. Its on the Bluray but not on the DVD.Although the way the Americans talk on that site they keeping talking about Region A discs...........something tells me the American BRAB are the exact same and if thats the case......we might have a collectors item on our hanRAB.

Then again i could be wrong but ive yet to read or see anyone say that its actually on their version of the DVD or the BD. I can confirm its definately on my BD and im guessing all UK BRAB.

I believe a few scenes were removed from Fantasia, some dialogue removed and a few frames of animation changed in Aladdin not to mention numerous cartoon shorts which have been released on DVD and are missing certain scenes or dialogue. Usually involving coloured characters or things like smoking. Which is why i believe some people wondered if Pinocchio would be cut, which it hasnt been. But i can assure you Disney have released quite a few things over the years and cut them for one reason or another.

Have you noticed the authoring fault on Bluray disc 2?

Play the documentary for about 5 minutes (the 55 minute one) and although no subtitles appear you should spot that when the documentary title appears onscreen that foreign subs appear by mistake and they appear again a minute later when the billboard and newspaper text appears onscreen

Annoying.
Check yours out

I would have thought they would have removed the smoking/drinking scene, and the part where someone says "jackass".

So, are these scenes removed from the DVD but not from the BluRay?

Paddy :D

I dont know, i only know that one word was removed. If those scenes were removed from the DVD im sure it would have been all over the internet.

Disney policy with their classics stuff seems to be that non PC material is not removed .

Several of the Disney Treasures Tins that did not come out in the UK have many old 30's and 40's toons with racial and sexist stereotypes.

There is always an intro explaining that its not right but should not be removed from history.

Warner Brothers US Tom and Jerry uncut collections have the same disclaimer.

Warners and other animated material has been routinely censored for 50 years for things like smoking ,suicide and other non PC stuff and Turner/Warner continue to air the butchered material on channels like Cartoon Network but historically important releases with an adult audience are not usually cut

The thing is, with something as classic as Pinocchio, it should remain totally uncut. Disney shouldn't mess around with their history, unless there's something like an animation fault. Cutting stuff like characters smoking and drinking is ridiculous. They put it in the film in the first place so they should just live with it. It's not offensive to anyone.

This and the Sleeping Beauty Blu-ray sound amazing.

Many Disney and Warner toons were edited or removed from circulation altogether as early as the 50's.

The Disney At War tin contains war propaganda and "racially sensitive" material not seen for decades.

Tom and Jerry had problems too.

The Mammy character was revoiced at least twice since the 50's with at least one episode redrawn and its these PC versions that air on tv today.

Thankfully uncut versions remain in the archives and the dvd's aimed at adult audiences are uncut - I expect kiddie targeted ones will still be edited as per tv broadcasts

Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies have been cut for decades

But the films im talking about like Fantasia..........which some could argue is a classic is missing some scenes involving the black girl called Sunflower. That was a pretty big release when it was released on DVD, same things happened with Aladdin 2 years later with its platinum edition release. As you say it might just be because its DVD. I do believe Fantasia will be released March 2011 as a Platinum Edition............maybe then we will see a true restoration and it will be completely uncut.

3 disc is the Bluray.

Note that 2 very brief lines of dialogue are missing from every bluray and dvd in the world except the UK Bluray dts track.
Even on the Bluray commentary track you can hear the gap on the soundtrack - very odd

Even the dvd with the Bluray is affected.

Animation fans are livid in the US where their Bluray is affected .

I'm a fan myself but having "right" and "look out" missing is not something I would worry about .

But the second Bluray disc has unwanted foreign subtitles in places so combined with the widescreen problem on the Sleeping Beauty dvd Disney have not got off to a good start with their Bluray releases

If any of you are members of the ultimatedisney forums go and clear things up for them. Some are saying that the european discs have faults too, european doesnt mean british. Our discs have the audio intact. And no, im not saying this just to rub their noses in it lol.

They are right.

Only the English track is complete.

European tracks are missing the dialogue too

But check your dvd too - that is also incomplete and the Bluray disc 2 has its subtitles fault - so all in all another Disney cock up

I think i speak for 99% of us when i say people are interested only in the english track. We are the only country in the world to have it untouched. So in a way what i said was right, the british disc is fine.

I wasnt disputing you.

Yes the UK Bluray is fine .

I was just pointing out that the UK dvd is not and that its odd that every other language track including the English one on the US Bluray is also missing the dialogue too.

I assume you have the subtitles problem on your Bluray disc 2 aswell ?

Disney were supposed to be looking into it for me but I guess they will have their hanRAB full with the dialogue problem.

Second Disney classic on Bluray - second faulty Bluray

I feel ashamed to say it but i havent watched anything on the second disc. I will try it later though. Ill assume the problem is there though since everyone else has it. If its just subtitles on the screen then im not bothered. It shouldnt ruin the viewing at all and from what ive heard they only appear briefly.
