Pierce Brosnan Should Have Stayed as Bond...

I'm just looking at 'Die Another Day' now on ITV1 and I just can't help but think getting rid of Pierce Brosnan as Bond is such a big mistake. Personally I never really considered Brosnan to be as good as Sean Connery or Roger Moore, but in Die Another Day his character has developed extremely well and you can tell Brosnan is very comfortable playing 007. Daniel Craig is a good actor, but I can't help but think getting rid of Brosnan is way too premature. I just hope Craig plays as good a Bond as Brosnan in 'Casino Royale', otherwise the producers are going to be kicking themselves, in fact it could very well be make or break for the entire franchise.

Couldn't agree more. Brosnan saved the producers' asses ten years ago with GoldenEye. He deserved a fifth Bond film if he wanted to do it (which he did).

Daniel Craig is a superb actor (check out Layer Cake). But I doubt he'll prove a popular 007, even though his performance will never be less than interesting. If Casino Royale tanks, I fear Craig will get the blame. But it's not his fault the producers did the dirty on Brosnan.

Exactly, it will be all down to the producers for making such harsh decisions at the last minute if 'Casino Royle' flops.
My brother thinks Daniel Craig will be compared to Timothy Dalton in years to come, but I'm not so sure. It will be interesting to see what work Craig makes of the Bond role.
As a Bond fan, I really hope the Bond franchise continues for many years to come, here's hoping so.

Yes it was indeed. My personal favourite Bond though is Sean Connery. He was fabulous I thought and he is the man who has made the Bond character so popular. My favourite Bond film has got to be 'Goldfinger', a true classic in my view.

Brosnan is definatley a quality Bond. If the new guy does turn out to be another Dalton he won't make more than 3 films.

I remember them filming the Hovercraft sequence in Chinnor Buckinghamshire. I didn;t have the right apearance to be an extra unfortunatley.. Chinnor is only a few miles from me..

How cool would it be to have Halle Berry and Rosamund Pike fighting over you!

The thing is, they both know they really want to! :D

Brosnan should have stayed, and everyone else involved with the franchise should have gone. Die Another Day was a terrible, terrible movie, but not because of Brosnan.

Had no problems with Brosnan but relying on Die Another Day as evidence is a bad idea. It's the worst Bond movie in about twenty years.

Just catching a glance of it tonight reminded me of that. The terrible matrix style freezes throughout and the juxtaposition "posing with attitude" of the characters for no reason were my two personal pet hates of it.

I liked the references to the previous films snuck in here and there, the OTT gadgets and the opening North Korea act but that didn't stop it being a general mess of a film that really seemed to have no direction at all.

Oh and poor Toby Stephens having to put on that terrible sneering upper lip every other second as well.

Yes, I didn't think he was bad either, but the movies were, and they weren't very successful either, as they were seen to be mimicking American action movies too much, certainly License To Kill, which as bad as it was, seemed like a welcome return to the no-nonsense style of Bond'ing with less emphasis on gadgets and silly stunts.

Jaws was in Moonraker and the Spy who loved me.

I have to admit I loved the last Bond filmed and felt it encapsulated everything 007. I have huge reservations over the new film because they are getting rid of Q, Moneypenny and one of the best BonRAB. Does anyone know if Dame Judi is starring in it?

Big gamble getting rid of Brosnan. He was never as good as Connery or Moore but casting Craig is not going to get the kind of money he generated.
