Yes you would need a compatible USB cord & software (usually the software comes on a cd when you buy your phone brand new). Or you could search for a free software on google that is compatible with your phone mode.
Second option, if you have a phone that has bluetooth as well as a computer that has bluetooth you could send your pictures from your phone to your computer via bluetooth(just google how to do this, if you dont already know). Or vice versa with Infared, you can send via infrared from your phone to your infared computer.
