Okay, I am a writer. I adore writing novels. I am currently writing a novel but it's very emotional and when I write it, I have to feel that emotion when I'm writing it because it helps so much and feels really real. I however cannot have anyone at home when doing this due to noise and interruptions. I live with 3 other people in a small apartment and never have time to write! Does anyone feel that way with not wanting anyone around? I feel like it's weird no one understands
Just thought I'd add, that I must listen to music while writing as well and would LOVE writing in the middle of the night while everyones sleeping but I do need to get up at 5 45 am on week days so not an option. I guess I'll have to settle for the time I'm home alone. But that's only 2-3 times a week. Denise you were so helpful! Thank you!

I get exactly what you're saying. My goodness everyone thinks that I'm such an oddball, but I agree with you one hundred percent, even about needing emotions to be right. I also have pretty odd list of needs (for example, I need the air conditioner on; it needs to be freezing when I write otherwise I can't focus) and I'm not certain that you do that, but you're not alone when it comes to needing to be yourself.

Some writers work better with all of that. I suppose that it depends on a person's palette.

Can you write elsewhere? Or do you need the apartment to yourself? If the latter is the answer, then perhaps you should politely ask them for some time in exchange for giving them the apartment for their own time on occasions. Or try writing at night. There's something magical about sitting in a (locked) window, looking out at the stars and the moon.

As far as conjuring up the correct emotions, the way that I get around that is to listen to music- Sigur Ros. They're my favorite band of all time and they have this way of tapping into something in your soul that I can't even describe, much less in a timely manner for Yahoo Answers. So I'd suggest that you check them out or any other song that really makes you think, "Things are right." That feeling of your soul being lined up and your head being plunged under icy water to clear everything up- they have that effect on people.

I'm sorry if none of this helps you. You're not weird- you're a writer and de facto we are an awkward bunch. But I hope that it helps you a little; it helped me and it's all that I can think of.

Good luck on your current novel. :)

find a nice park to relax in, that helps a lot, and i listen to real slow smooth jazz when i work which helps me relax and focus.
