Piano: Do we need to count the beat as we play?

My teacher said that I need to sing every single note in my mind as I play.
Okay, I can do it.

But now, she increases the level by saying that I need to count the beat in my mind also as I play.
I tried, but it is really hard for me to sing the notes and count the beats as I play.
Tapping foot and counting out loud is not allowed by my teacher.

Now, I am so stressed about this and can not put my mind in practicing, because I am not sure what my mind should do...

Please help.
