PIAA Halogen Headlights

Has anyone tried upgrading their headlight bulb to one of these high intensity bulbs. They are a bit pricey but if they kick out more light and give increased visibility (to oncoming motorist), it may be worth it. My application would be on an S40. Apparently there is a special powersport bulb that is better for motorcycles.

I bought a Sylvania SilverStar H4 bulb, and it is 100% better than the original ones. The color temp is 4000K, the ones you mentioned, the PIAA Star White come in 3800k and 4000k (plus). Mine was 19.99 at the local auto store. PIAA also has the H4 SUPER PLASMA GT-X, that are 3800K low, and 5000K high beam. PIAA

A true HID requires a ballast and igniter for the high voltage light, so you would need a conversion.

The H4 is the same as one of the other Auto bulbs, I compared them, just that the H4 is approved for motorcycle use. I then later saw a package with the same auto bulb that was marked both 9003/H4, but I am pretty sure you can use just a 9003 if the H4 is not available. The wattages are identical, so do not know why the H4 just says for MC, and 9003 for auto. The 9003 has both the H/L beam, three prong setup.

The bulbs that are the same are: H4 / 9003 / HB2 @ 12V, 60/55W.

You can get them in much higher wattage, as high as 130/90W, but you risk too much heat, which can easily melt your front lens, as they are not glass anymore.

Here is the HID conversion:

From 109 to 179.00, for two bulbs and ballasts, so you can go halfers with someone to convert, but will it all fit, the electronics of it.

Here is a HID lamp that may attach to a light bar: PIAA 610

Probably more information than you needed, but it's all there.

I too have the Sylvania SilverStar H4 bought it at PepBoys for 19.99. Make sure you get the single pack H4 it made for bikes heaver duty. You will love the white light ibstead of the yellow tint.

I have the PIAA bulb in my M109 its WAY brighter than a stocker. I saw other responses were for HID and sylvania not sure that was the anwser you were after. I dont know how the PIAA compares to the sylvania, but i think it was money well spent.

I installed the PIAA bulb and it is definitely brighter. It plugged in without a problem (H4) configuration. According to the Suzuki parts schematic, the OEM part is actually a H14 bulb (apparently a new technology out of Germany that is suppose to be brighter than a standard H4). Anyway, the PIAA has that interesting blue tint.
