...you know the answer? Calculate the magnitude and direction of the resultant force caused by charges q1 and q2 on charge q3.

........ + -------> q1
....... /..\
....... /....\
8.7m /......\ 10m
....... /........\
....... /..........\
..q2 - ......... + ------- > q3

----------- 5m

q1 is + charged
q2 is - charged
q3 is + charged

distance from:

q1 to q2 is 8.7 m
q1 to q3 is 10 m
q2 to q3 is 5 m

The physics teacher who gave this as an assignment said that you will use Pythagorean Theorem there? How is it?

Here are some facts that you can use,

Coulomb's Law

Electrical force = (k)(q1)(q2)
----------------
d^2
k = 9 x 10^9 N-m^2/ C^2
q1 and q2 are charges
d is the distance

Charge of electron = 1.6 x 10^ -19 C
Charge of proton = 1.6 x 10^ -19 C
Mass of electron = 9.11 x 10^ -31 kg
Mass of proton = 1.67 x 10^ -27 kg

You can use some of them
