Hi--Could someone please help me? I am not quite understanding this. Please explain your answer so I can understand. Thanks to all. All help is greatly appreciated.

The motion of a ball on an inclined plane is described by the equation Δ x= 1/2a (Δt)^2. Which of the following quantities must have a value of zero?

A. x(i)
B. x(f)
C.v(i)
D.t(f)

initial velocity v(i)

from the formula

x = 1/2at^2 + ut

where u = initial velocity

u has to be zero to remove the term ut altogether from the equation.

so answer is C

None of the above. If any of the variables in the equation was zero, it would give you the motion of the ball as zero. In other words, a zero anywhere indicates a ball that has no motion or all; or is perfectly still; at rest.
