I have a 10-year-old son who is very artistic and has been manipulating images in Publisher to create comic book covers, abstract designs, geometric patterns, melded pictures, etc. Of course Publisher is not the right program for that, but it's amazing what he's been able to do.
His 11th birthday is coming up, and I'd like to get him a program that will allow him to do more of this with the right tools. I don't think he needs the full Photoshop program; is there a lesser program that will allow him to get started with photo manipulation, etc.? I've heard of Photoshop Elements; would that be a good program? Are there progressive levels? Are there others? I'd like to get something not too expensive (less than $40-$50).
