Photoshop help please...?

I know the basics to photoshop, how to crop, add text, recolor; I am really novice! I am trying to merge 2 files together to show 1 pic as "before" and 2nd pic as "after". I have both files saved as separate jpgs. Is this possible, to have 2 pictures side by side? How do I do that?
 
One approach (there are multiple ways to approach it) is to create a new black file that is large enough to hold both JPGs.

Copy one JPG and paste into the empty file.
Copy the second JPG and paste into the empty file.

You now have two layers in that new file with the two JPGs. Move each to the location you want.

After it's positioned as you like, crop the image if you need to.

Then save it as a JPG (or whatever format you prefer) when you're done.
 
ok, open up both of them, u should be able to have two files open at the same time, next go to one image which ever (if is before elarge it on the right if after enlarge it on the left) you can use the crop button and select the whole picture then make it so that it would crop beyond the pic making it bigger. size it however you want. next go to the other pic and right clip copy make sure you get it all! then go back and paste it, it should be selectd so you can move it to where ever you want it VIOLA
