photography/memory quotes...?

'A photograph of something tells us nothing about it’s subjects inner workings.’ I have used this quote in my essay for university by Bertolt Brecht but i can't find where I found it and now I'm starting to worry if it's even a quote or by him. I need to reference everything that I do so I can't just use it. Any ideas where it's from? Or any similar quotes that I could use? Thanks

Unlike any other visual image, a photograph is not a rendering, an imitation or an interpretation of its subject, but actually a trace of it. No painting or drawing, however naturalist, belongs to its subject in the way that a photograph does.
