One of the first where photography was used the US civil war, when it was still in its early stages of development.
Photographs took time and living subjects had to pose motionless. Photographers had to make sure that there was no movement in the frame or it would appear as a blur.
More recently, modern photography has captured other civil wars.
In Angola, modern cameras and film enabled journalists to capture scenes from the battle as well as the aftermath. Good lenses and fast film allowed the shooting of just about any scene the photographer chose to take.
