I am a photography student so I'm in the process of learning everything and I haven't touched on lighting or flash yet. A friend wants me to be the photographer for her engagement party at a very nice indoor banquet center. I have a Canon EOS 500D with an 18-55mm lens. I just need to know some basic external flash info so that I can buy something compatible with my camera, that will work for this engagement party, and will be useful for future projects in class and my career. I don't really know anything about flash, so please start with the basics but give me the specs I need to know.
