i have been given a scenario to answer...

As the new chief photographer for the Australian newspaper and you have been assigned your first project. You know that the key to success in the cut throat world of photography is being prepared. as such you have been given 70 minutes research time to investigate equipment and photographic procesess you might need/use for the upcoming photo shoot. The boss has not yet released the topic that you will be doing so you must think of stuff that will cover a range of topics... basically can you please tell me like what you attachments you would use when you are taking long distance shots and like what film you would use etc etc.

thanks you

Digital cameras; they all use them. A lens capacity of 28mm to 300 or 500mm, spare batteries, more spare batteries, lens cleaners, back up camera, stronger flash to get distant illumination, flash hood for softer illumination on close subjects. Notepad for names and such to caption photos.

Sure, fine, no problem. Just give me your tutor's email and I'll answer him direct, which should save you from having to do any work at all. There may be a small problem when the project is discussed in class, what with you not having the slightest idea about the work you're supposed to have done but I expect we can get over that. What's your age, height and build? I bet I could dress up as you and no-one would notice. Hey, why don't I take the whole course for you? That would be cool.

This sounds too far fetched.

All my assignments are given to me via a phone call from the photo editor and followed by an email with the specifics, contact names and locations as well as a deadline.

All I can do is depend upon my experience to know which lens(es) to attach to my camera when I am shooting and if I need supplemental lighting

Last night .. I got an assignment to shoot the exterior of a night club and restaurant located within 10 minutes of one another.

Both exteriors required some supplemental lighting and I used a Lowel Tota-light with 750 watt bulb to balance white balance with the lights already on the building. I carry two of these with stands, umbrellas, a 25 foot, 50 foot and 100 foot extension.

Part of the assignment included interiors of both buildings as well as shots of three dishes from the restaurants menu. This I accomplished this morning.

You have to have the experience to know what you need and when it is appropriate to get the shots.

I carry two external flash units, the above mentioned incandescent lamps as well as an array of camera bodies and lenses. The exteriors and interiors required I use a wide angle zoom lens. The food shots were taken with a 24-70 mm zoom lens.

For sports like basketball, I use two bodies with a 14-24 mm wide angle lens on a D3 for shooting from the sidelines under the basket and a 24-70 mm or 70-200 mm for shooting action at half court or at the other end of the court. Football requires a different set of lenses ... the 400 mm f/2.8 and 600 mm f/4 come to mind first.

As you can see, investigating the equipment is something that needed to be done when you were in school or working as an assistant to a pro. By the time you have earned the position as a chief photographer, all this had better be part of your muscle memory.
