Phones With Japanese Fonts

My wife is Japanese, and routinely emails her family and friends in japanese, but no phones sold stateside have kana text input - it's all roman. are there any phones i can buy in japan that a carrier will support stateside?
 
The Japanese network is WCDMA and not compatible here in the US. However, I have heard there is a Vodaphone BB, 8707 I think that might work. I suggest you seraph the forums.
