Riddle me this. What was our total taxable income (as an entire population) in 2010? If there was just a flat tax of 15% across the board would that be enough to cover the debt? How about 10%?

We won't default. It's a smoke and mirrors tactic.

This entire legislation is based on our ability to borrow money to fund additional government expenditures. If we don't pass a budget bill we still have our revenue stream which is more than enough to service our debt. Our treasury department is setup to pay and service our debt BEFORE any other expenditures.

We will not default unless the government stops receiving tax revenue. It's a bunch of bullshit... and these deadlines are a bunch of bullshit.
 
No, it underlines the fact that they've been watching too much "news". The majority of these people calling/emailing have zero real knowledge of anything involving the economy beyond what CNN told them to believe.
 
So, top income earners pay 35% federal, 8% state, 7.65% FICA.. for a total of 50.65% before property and sales taxes.

Like I said before, there are individuals who give more than half their income to the government... and you think thats okay. Sweet.

Considering the bottom 50% only represent 10% of income, it's not the huge problem you're implying that it is.

Idiotic spending from both sides is a FAR bigger problem than a 23% effective rate on the top 1% who represent 20% of income.
