Hey,

I have my VX5200 for about a year now and I wanted to switch to another phone. My service provider is Verizon wireless and ya. The compatibility of the phone I wanted should have a good quality of listening to music, camera would be best, bluetooth to go of course, and others I don't really care. But one question...if I have bluetooth on (Verizon) and my friends have their bluetooth on but they with Cingular can I still detect their device? Or I can only detect devices that are Verizon users. Thanks.

*EDIT- Also, for texting, is there a plan for unlimited? I text alot and I'm not sure what I should do!

bluetooth technology is independent of your service provider. So as long as another phone has bluetooth, u can detect their phones.

For music, sony ericsson, is definitely a safe way to go. Check out the W950i that has all the features you are looking for, and with a massive 4Gb space for your mp3. Think you need to be abit more specific on your requirements to suggest more.

do check out www.mobileconnectionz.com/handphones.php which allows u to do a phone comparison of various phones you are interested in. There are compiled reviews in the specifications page too (not just plain specification, but reviews in that page as well)...

w950 is a good option, since it supports stereo bluetooth headsets but it doesnt have a camera. if you in need of a cam as well, try the w850i, very good and reliable phone, iv had it

In my experience with Verizon phones and bluetooth - my parents and brother are with V and I'm with Cing., is that Verizon has the manufacturer disable all bluetooth functions except the headset. In other words, your phone will be able to DETECT another BT phone, but file transfer is disabled. Believe me, I've tried. I believe there were 2 class action law suits against V for this.

The same goes for Cingular's cheapest phones with BT. My company bought a bunch of Cing LG CU300's, and the only BT that works is the headset.

If you want to transfer contacts, songs, ringtones, etc., from phone to phone, dump V and go with T-Mo or Cing. I did. And that was the reason why.

Overlooked you are with verizon and told u to get GSM phone..lol...durr!! well, go with brigadiers suggestions and take a look at GSM phones, or you could try phones from softbank!!
