Ok so as you know my phone went through the wash, is there anyway to save it? or would i be able to return it for a new one? i have the receipt and have only had for about 5 months

You'd killed your 1 year warranty (assuming that you've had it less than a year) Warranty only replaces phones that were faulty from the get go. They will be able to prove that your phone has sustained water damage if you try to pull a fast one on them and imply that it didn't go through the wash, seriously don't try it. If you do it, they will send you a refurbished LIKE OR SIMILAR PHONE (Not necessarily the same one) and once they see the phone you sent them was damaged, they will charge you full price on the refurbished phone (this is in your contract).

So what's the next option? Do you have insurance on your phone? If so, what they will do is they will transfer you to another department (actually it's a completely different company called Assurion) And they will ask for a $50-100 deductible (around there...) and then they'll send you a LIKE OR SIMILAR PHONE (Again... no guarantee you'll get the same one.) But here's what you need to keep in mind. If you ever took off the insurance on your plan -- you can never put it back onto the plan. Also, if you're had any more than 3 insurance claims with Assurion, then you're not able to have insurance on your phone.

You could purchase a prepaid phone from your network and usually you're able to get it to work on your post-paid service (post-paid meaning contractual service rather than prepaid service). These phones tend to be substantially cheaper. This is an option most carriers tell their customer service representatives not to mention... but I always said "to hell with dishonesty" and told customers anyways.

The next option is to ask if you're eligible for an upgrade. (Getting a new phone at an extreme discount... the trade off is getting a new contract). If you're not, ask if you're eligible for an early upgrade (You'll probably be eligible for an early upgrade if you're six months out from the end of your contract. You'll have to pay more on the discount though).

But here's what you should keep in mind for the future. Most vehicular insurers carry what's called "personal line insurance" and you can place your phone onto it. Iphones can't get cellphone insurance THROUGH CELL PHONE CARRIERS, but this is a good option for people with iphones. So, in the future with your future phones, find a place that has personal line insurance. Tell them THE RETAIL PRICE (not the Upgrade pricing) of the phone then pay the monthly fee to them. Then if your phone breaks, then you can just pay the deductible (a little higher than Assurions) and they will hand you CASH to buy a BRAND NEW PHONE -- ANY PHONE you want.
