Phone swap: Any reason it won't work?

Situation: Grandaughter wants a pink RAZR for birthday in June. She is on Verizon family plan with parents and sibling and not eligible for phone upgrade until Jan 07.

Standalone cost of a RAZR is >$400, kind of outrageous.

I am also on Verizon and eligible now for RAZR uograde at very reasonable cost.

Question: Can I upgrade to a RAZR and activate to my number, then, after a few weeks, decide that I don't like the new phone and request a switch back to my earlier phone and give the RAZR to my grandaughter to activate on her family account?

Any reason this would not work? As far as I can see, it doesn't violate any rules. Comments?

Should work. I've got a new phone before sold them and switched back to the old phone or switched phones to different numbers with no problem.

Forgot to add, DO NOT give them your old phone. They may tell you they need it but they don't. It's your phone.

You can do the swap the very same day. Once you own the phone there is absolutely nothing that Verizon can do or say about you giving it to someone else. I did the same thing when I added my Mother to my Family Plan. I got her a nice new LG VX6100, but traded her my older Kyocera KX414.

I would recommend doing the swap over the phone, just so you don't have to put up with any crap you may get in the store.

Good luck!

My only concern was that, since VZW is clearly heavily subsidizing the new phone (>$400 vs. $129 - $50 REBATE), they might place restrictions on use or transfer of new phone for certain time period.

Is anyone aware of any restrictions in that or any other regard?

I think Verizon is trying to get rid of the Razr they have right now because they should have a new one out soon. Was in at Best Buys today and both of the display razrs were gone.

There are no restrictions of any kind. You can do as you asked in your first post. But...make sure you do as bman said...do not give them your old phone...and yes...they are going to ask for it.

I switch phones on a average of about 3 to 4 a year. When I do this, I move all my numbers around according to where I want my phones to be....and I have never had a problem with it.

I have already bought another new phone this year and swapped out 5 numbers to other phones....once again....no problem.

Any idea why they would ask for the old phone? When my wife used her new every 2 to buy the Pink Razr, the customer service representative went out of the way to make sure my wife took her old phone (Audiovox CDM-8600) back home with her.

One of the local places here takes the old phones, cleans them up and sells them to people that break their phone and can't buy a new one. Or for the pay as you go folks.

When I switch over to this 9800, they asked for my old phone...I laughed at them. My old phone is a Moto E815, that they are selling outright for like $300 still.

I told them I paid for this phone, and unless they plan on giving me money for the phone....they could kiss my a$$.

I don't know why this is....and they just started doing this about a year ago. Could be like bman said.
