Phone stuck at startup (T-Mobile G1) Screen

Guys,

I had a HTC Dream with root access and Haykuro ROM with Cupcake and all working fine. I only wanted to move my apps to SD and in the process, formatted my 8GB SD Card with FAT as well as ext2 partition and later, I guess, flashed it with some SPL.

From then on, the phone just doesn't work

1. I tried the recovery mode and reboot mode (Home + Power), (Home + Back) as well as Home + Camera. Nothing Works. It's still stuck at the startup screen

2. I tried pulling out the battery and put it back and tried to power it up. I retried the above step. Still the same.

3. I tried pulling out the SD Card as well and tried to power it up and retried the step # 1. Still the same.

I did try searching for similar posts but there are way too many and I have been digging them for the past 4 hours but couldn't find anything useful

Guys, Please share if anyone has any idea.

Thanks in advance

k.

I had this problem you soft "bricked" your phone..
The only way to get it back to normal is re-flashing it with a working rom.. this means having either another phone to insert your sd card or a card reader. I used my brothers blackberry hope this helps.. Alt W then Alt S..

Lplayer that doesn't sound like a soft brick he is not getting bootloops and can't get into recovery.Well if that spl was the special one then u are screwed. Ur supposed to flash the radio then haykuros spl. read more here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517593

mmmph I well I don't what the real term is then but I had the same issue when I tried flashing an spl... mind-you I installed the radio first. anyway a wipe and rom and a redo of radio then spl should do the trick EDIT (mmm I still had access to recovery though)

He can't get into recovery that's why I think he was trying to flash the special spl or whatever its called. I think he can't even get passed the tmobile g1 screen

Thanks for the prompt responses guys. Appreciate your time.

Yes, I believe currently I can't get into recovery mode.

I don't mind wiping out things, if there's a way to get it work like normal

If it helps, I was able to access recovery mode and copied HardSPL > renamed it to update.zip > recover mode > Alt + S.

That's the last thing I did before it stuck on me

Sounds like a BRICK. Your phone is now a glorified paper weight sorry man. Go to ebay and buy another or if you have insurance throw it in a bush and say it was stolen(not that I endorse fruad or anything)

There are ppl that claimed to have unbricked the phone . Search on xda . Also there was a person who started a thread here on AC that claim that he could unbrick any phone

he's confused i think lol.or typos. his first post said no recovery. but this is from his last post "If it helps, I was able to access recovery mode and copied HardSPL > renamed it to update.zip > recover mode > Alt + S."
if you did hardspl, i can almost guarantee if you get to recovery, the jf recovery update will fix it. other than that, i'm at a loss until we hear back from the op clearing up a few things.
or, he meant he got to recovery before doing hardspl. i bet he has original recovery image still.
you need a card reader and get the spl off your card and put the recovery image on it. then try to boot to recovery mode and update.
actually, lol, it's been so long, i think if you have old\original recovery, i think you need to update recovery by holding cam and power.

Guys,

Sorry for the confusion. Should've been more clear - especially with the SPL's. The SPL I used seems to be Haykuro SPL http://code.google.com/p/sapphire-port-dream/downloads/list - the first one which says spl-signed.zip

This is the SPL I tried flashing after which the phone does not respond

Please let me know if any further info would help.

Thanks
k

We got chu. Take ur sd card throw it in a card reader, go on ur pc, put the rom ud like to flash on the rooot of the sd, put the sd on ur phone, hold home and power up, and flash it'll take u a minute after u flash, and man ur good to go

Thanks buddy, It gives me some hope. I'll try that today once I buy my card-reader..

Correct me if I'm wrong, this would work only if I am able to get into recovery mode, isn't it? (which I can't seem to do at this point of time).

currently, I have taken off the SD Card. Maybe I will format the SD Card (FAT32) and copy JF ROM and flash it..

Start holding home even before u hhit the power botton see if that works.. cus I tried it a couple of times and I would hold home after hitting power it would just sit on the g1 logo

I just tried this.

Copied the JF ROM to SDCard and renamed it to update.zip. Inserted the SD Card. Held Home and then Power button.

Still the same. It just throws up the T-Mobile G1 Splash Screen
