Phone not syncing with Google!

Morning guys, my wife is having trouble with her phone so last night we swapped SIM cards to test something, all we did was boot our phones then swapped back. Once back in my phone it asked for my google password which I put in.

I can read emails from before that time but cannot receive new ones or send any.
I can add stuff to the calendar on my phone but that doesn't upload to be viewed on my PC and any changes the wife makes to our shared calendar cannot be viewed
I can view the market and it advised me of updates but the updates won't download them.
Any changes to my contacts I make online doesn't appear on my phone

internet connection is fine through Wi-Fi/3G/HSDPA

any help greatly appreciated

go into settings > applications > manage applications

find the gmail entrys, open them and clear the caches

if that does not work you'll have to do a factory reset. (wipe)

Cheers, I started it with no SIM and then again with it in and its ok now

Glad I didn't wipe, there should never be a need to do that to a phone, if there is then it must be crap!

Yeah - a full wipe usually does very little that can't done by using the Clear Data button in the right apps from the Manage applications menu. The trick is knowing which ones to clear.

Paul was on the right lines there, but he meant to say "Clear data" not "Clear cache". The data is where all the settings in an app are stored.

Off the top of my head the procedure would have been:

Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications... Then from here do the following three in order:
Google Mail -> Clear data
Google Mail Storage -> Clear data
Google Apps -> Clear data

Then run the GMail app and it will ask you for your login details again, and nothing should be lost as everything else will be stored in the Google cloud and will download to your phone again.
