Phone freezes, 90% of time doesnt get past TMobile G1 screen

Ok, so I bought this "new" G1 from someone off craigslist yesterday and it worked fine. This morning it like froze so I shut it off and pretty much ever since it stays at the startup TMobile G1 screen. I can access all the special menus like power + Camera button and power + home buttons and tried both soft and hard reset I guess. Same thing keeps happening. Not sure if the phone is rooted, dont think so. Help please, I really dont want this to be a waste of $150
 
same thing happened to me except my phone died on the charger.. it takes me to the boot screen or whateever it works whenever it feels like but once i try to text or look at anything else thats where its freezes up... sometimes it wont start or starts on that boot screen or freezes up on g1 screen.... if i find the answer ill let u know i got mines of craigslist as well... if u fixed ur fone lemme know
