Phone advise

I am planning to get the NEC E949 phone. It is a triband phone. Is it wise to spend around 200 to get this phone. I have heard that t-mobile is switching to 850mhz is this true. Also the phone will be used in houston, texas.
 
What carrier - T-Mobile? As for movign to the 850 band, why not call T-Mo and get the straight skinny from the horse's mouth?

Looks like the phone is a GSM device so that basically limits you to T-Mo and Cingular. Looking at the T-Mo site, most of their phones appear to be quad-band. That is generally a better choice as you can have service in more places.
