standards? To find no joy in material possessions, activities, or relationships with individuals today is a classification of depression, yet to Buddha it was liberation and bliss. As detachment is a fundamental Buddhist principal. 10 points to the one who Debates their contention the best. Choose: Depressed or Enlightened?

well i do agree with your terms but you have grossly misinterpreted there meanings, that is why the new dsms have 3 axises for classification.

enlightenment, has nothing to do with what is a heart in classification of disorders.

Well I don't know about other countries, but in america he would be depressed. You basically cant live here without some form of material wealth. Even hobos have welfare. The only other way to live like Buddha in america would be living in what little wilderness there is left. Even then there are hunters and construction projects that disturb the peace.

Modern American society would assume him to be on drugs. Perhaps some of that Special K I hear is going around? El status quo loves to promote production and consumption, ie undisturbed activity. Detachment renders el status quo weakened, production and consumption no longer the primary motives.
