've got such a bad cough that im coughing up blood and having trouble sleeping. The doctor gives me a prescription for hydrocodone cough syrup and antibiotics. When I go to pay for my meds the pharmacist says that she only filled half of my cough syrup because " it would have been so expensive" and that " this should be all you need anyway"She already had it bagged up and didn't tell me until after she told me the cost She didn't bother to ask me about this before hand. I didn't want act like the drug seeker that she already assumed I was so I just paid and left.I felt like everyone in there was looking at me when the pharmacist informed me she only filled half because of how much it would have cost me.
A couple of days later I found out that I have to go out of town to work for the next couple of weeks. Can they refuse to fill my refill because I shouldn't be out of what they already gave me even though the 1 refill on the side of the bottle is really the second half of my original prescription?
The only thing I have is rhe bottle with 1 refill labeled on the side. The pharmacist didn't give me any thing on paper back. Can i take the bottle in to any pharmacist and get a refill if all I have is the bottle and Im out of state. Could I get the prescription transfered ?Im in Alabama and will be in Florida for two weeks to a month and a half. Thanks a lot for taking the time to read this.

I'm afraid that when I go back they are going to refuse to give me the other half because the first half isn't out yet.

Im leaving to go out of town tomorrow and I might be gone for up to a month and a half so I'm defiantly going in the morning.

I would suggest you take your receiptback to the pharmacy and request asuperviser or even return to your dr.( by the way the do not like being overroad and especially with by a phamasist) they pretty much know the price of what they prescribe' and it would be in ur health recrds if the original held a refil. I believe that would be altering a script which is against the law

There was no refill on the origionl The doctor prescribed me a bottle of hydrocoding cough syrup. When I went to pay, the pharmacist hands me the bag, takes my money and says" This is only half of your cough syrup. All of it would have been so expensive and this should be all you need." So I got half of what I should have gotten with 1 refillis instead of none.

The only time the pharmacy has given me half a script is when they ran out of that medication. They made a note on my prescription bottle and they notified me when a new supply was in their store. This seems very odd.

Then you go back to the drug store where they will have your script on record. tell them you do want all of the cough syrup and you don't care about the cost. yes they do have to give you the rest.. explain your going out of town for two weeks and need to have it all with you in case you need it..

soo,let me get this straight. the pharm cut your RX in half and placed a refill on it(herself) that the doc actually did not write for? honestly,i don;t know this whole story quite as well as i would like to really give you the best possible advice, but one huge thing you NEED to do is call your docs office who wrote that Rx. they simply had NO right to do this to you, it was not the way the Rx was originally written by your doc. its that simple. unless your actual INS CO had some issues with this, which i really cannot imagine them doing on any cough syrup, even with the hydro base, there was no real reason other than a pharm taking it upon herself to 'do' something without your permission or knowledge,or the undermining the authority of your Rxing doc. i am sure the writing doc will not be happy about this either. this would be the very best place to go to first, before even going back to your pharm, and simply ask them what you need to do here. thats a pretty sick and underhanded thing to do to any patient for ay reason

one other thing to also keep in mind here is why she may have done this. it is always a possibility that she could have cut YOUR Rx in half for a very different reason here and maybe, just maybe decided to keep the other half for herself? you just really don;t know what that underlying reason was(her excuse was stupid),that is why you DO need to involve your doc AND the manager of the pharm here once you have spoken to your docs office. their office also needs to know that this pharm appears to have actually added a refill to an Rx as well? that IS a no no in any way shape or form. she kind of "altered" an Rx written by a doc. this was for a class III narcotic and would be looked at much more closely and fall under some different rules and regs too. but DO call your docs office and tell them what happened and what she did to you.

one other thing you NEED to find out is just what your actual acct there states about how this was filled, was it fully filled or partial. if it staes that it was indeed fully filled when it was not, there could be some big trouble for her here too. you should have also recieved the normal patient info sheet with all the rxing info on it too like you would use to prove to your ins co at tax time that this was a filled Rx(this is a mandated thing by law,you simply NEED to be fully informed of the med you are taking)? you know what i mean? did this deviate from what you would normally get with any other rx you have had there before?

something is soo not right with what she took it upon herself to do here. your docs office NEEDS to get involved here asap. AND the manager too like i mentioned before. good luck with this. please keep us posted as to how things go here. i really am wondering just what this woman did and what is going to be done to her becasue of it once your doc finds out.
