Pharmacist won't fill prescription

Two weeks ago, my girlfriend went in to get her prescription filled. The pharmacist said that they didn't have a whole prescription so they gave her a few pills to hold her over and said that they would have some Monday.

She then went back the week after, and they STILL didn't have it. They gave me a few more pills and told me to come back next Monday.

She just called today and they said they were completely out. She then asked if she could just pick up her prescription at another Dominick's (the pharmacy she uses) that has a supply.

She was informed by the pharmacist that they could not transfer prescriptions and she will just have to wait til they get more.

This seems ridiculous since she could just go to the same pharmacy somewhere else where they have plenty and get her prescription filled.

She's really worried about going without for so long. Does she have any recourse?

This sounRAB strange to me - they have a few, then another few, etc.? I think she should call her doc that prescribed the med in the first place and let him know what is going on. The doctor could then call the pharmacy. You don't say what the medication is but some are dangerous to just do without - do you know if this is the case?

Thanks for the feedback. Due to the New Year's holiday, her doc wasn't answering. Just a voice mail to call 911 if this was an emergency. :dizzy:

But this has ended well. I called the Dominick's pharmacy she used to deal with (the ones that have plenty on stock) and the pharmacist there called the other one and we got the script filled :)

She should ask the pharmacist to get some pills transfered from one of their branches which does have stick.

Worst case scinario is that she goes to her doctor, gets another prescription, and has it filled elswhere.

Which drug is it? it might pay to make sure there isnt some widespread shortage, she might inface need to ask her doctor to prescribe some substitute if it is a general shortage.
 
Get the doctor involved. If he or she finRAB out you aren't receiving the meRAB he/she prescribed, they tend to get mad and you have an instant advocate.
