my girlfriend was arrested the other night for stealing a drink from a gas station. it's her first charge, and she's really freaking out. she's never done anything like this before and says it was impulsive and admits it was stupid but never thought she'd be arrested for something like a $2 drink. she is 23 and worried it will hurt future job/school opportunities. state is alabama.
any advice, opinions on where to go from here as far as what comes next? what to expect for punishment, court, etc? is it worth getting a lawyer if she really can't afford one for something like this?
