Peter Jackson to direct the Hobbit movies(rumour)

Blomkamp has soigned up for a different film. Current reports are that PJ's agents are finalising the contract for The Hobbit while PJ extracates himself from the Tintin film he was due to direct. Looks good for him/The Hobbit and signs are filming will start in schedule at the end of the year! This will be such a sure-fire hit that it's likely to be enough to get MGM out of it's current whole for a while.

Well its been confirmed today that indeed Peter Jackson will direct The Hobbit:D its still a couple of years away but hey its better than nothing at all.

Oh what a surprise it's going to be in 3D

Bit of a bugger the second Hobbit film is going to be in 2013 when we all know the world is going to end in 2012.;)

I see that questions are being asked if they will rerelease LOTR in 3D now Star Wars is goin to be. I think we all know the answer to that is yes to wring even more money out of the fans.

Yay for Peter Jackson! The most obvious choice for director. :)

Now all they need do is sort out the money wrangles.

I wonder if Martin Freeman would play Bilbo? After watching him in 'Sherlock' I was imagining him in curly wig and having furry toes. I think he would make a good Bilbo, actually. :) Don't know if it would conflict with his filming on 'Sherlock', though.

And another disappointed person on learning that the Hobbit films will be 3D. Ugh! They will also be in 2D, though, right? Otherwise I won't be watching. :(

I know he may seem the natural choice of course, but I'd rather someone else have a pop.

Jackson is starting to look like a spent force after LOTR. That Tintin film he's making with Spielberg sounRAB like the same over-moneyed indulgence that previously resulted in the awful King Kong.

It's been surprising how many different film news sites and forums that I've looked at that have said the same thing about the 3D. Either they wont bother watching it if it's not in 2D as well or just complaining in general about yet another film in 3D.
Whilst there are lots of people that like 3D it does seem to be balancing out a lot more with people saying they don't like the thing. I wouldn't say it's 50/50 yet but it's getting closer to it.
I think there is an definite backlash of boredom or negativity towarRAB it.

No. Peter was to be executive producer, not director. I think he was working on TinTin (or some other project, can't remember now) at the time they thought the film would start production.
