I would like to hear from liberals, moderates, and conservatives on their thoughts on what is happening with the tobacco industry through government interference and legislation. How does this posturing play out to enhance the idea of personal liberty and responsibility, or reinforce the idea that "big brother" knows what is best for us and must force an industry out of business because we apparently can't decide to take our own risks?

I think we need drano legislation. More people are killed by accidental poisonings than any other method. We should legislate to protect people from accidentally swallowing windex.

Next all those pesky bridges have got to go. People die when they fall off of bridges. No more bridges.

Cars are out of here. No more car deaths. You have to ride a bike every where. If you get hurt on a bike we will have to get rid of those.

Seriously I want legislation to put every one in a padded cell. It is for your own good.

It's insane. I am totally against it. I voted against the smoking ban in my state. There is no medical proof that smoking causes cancer.

My grandparents smoke and drank for over 60 years (until they were 89) and died suddenly and healthy.

tobacco being an unhealthy product is not the issue for me. personally i don't smoke.

what bugs me about this is that the government is trying to exert more control over a person's choices on a legal product. what's next, fast food, bakery products such as pies or cakes, soda, candy etc? Where will it end? Pretty soon they will be telling us what we can or can not consume?

I really don't know enough about this particular proposed legislation, however, I am against government intervention into private industry.
