Permit behind the wheel test?

After I finish my driver's ed class I need to do 6 hours of observation/6 hours of behind the wheel. Although I'm still far away from the last day of my class I just wanted to know a few questions.

1) Is it required to have people sit in the back of the car during a BTW session?

2) Does it matter how long you wait to do a BTW session after you complete your driver's ed class?

3) How long does a BTW session usually last?
