Perl script suggestions for practice?

Well, what is your purpose for learning Perl? What is your goal? Think of or choose some interesting problem related to your goal and start working on that?
 
I'm an amateur Perl programmer (I recently finished "Perl 5 for dummies") and I've been searching for ideas on what to script. I already have written (at my father's suggestion) a program for extracting the unique words from a text file but that isn't enough for practice.

Does anyone have any ideas on what kind of program I should create next (novice level please)? I really can't think of anything at all and I really need the practice.
