performance upgrades for 96 dodge 12 valve with automatic?

i just bought a 1996 dodge 12 valve diesel with an automatic transmission and i am looking for ways to increase horsepower i need to start out cheap cause im just a waiter at a diner but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, btw i just got a straight pipe installed and the pump is turned up a little bit it smokes a good amount when i want it to, i am also about to put a 7 inch tip on it. you can email me at [email protected] if you would like i havent figured out how to talk back and forth on yahoo answers lol. any links to websites would be awesome thanks very much.
