People who think Jimi Hedrix is overated Please explain here

haha--he's a god, right? great guitarist, hell of a show, obviously, but i never thought he had a GREAT voice. plus, some of HIS songs (some of his most popular ones are covers) lack lyrical depth. not that that necessarily matters....i'm not here to bust anyone's balls.

You can't be overrated when you're the originator of a widely imitated guitar style. Think about it, before Jimi electric guitars were for blues musicians and hippie folk singers.
 
Granted his lyrics weren't the greatest sometimes, even still most of them had some sort of meaning and were at least sort of catchy.

It's his guitar playing that made him a god among men though.
 
People think it's cool to say Jimi was overrated. It makes them hip and they think it makes them look like they know what they are talking about. But in reality they tend to be elitist douchebags.

I'm glad I'm not alone here in my appreciation for Jimi. I feel a sort of kinship with those who defend him, lol. If anyone has seen his documentary or his interviews, the guy is just so humble and friendly and talented it makes me want to defend him.

Did Jimi write Angel? Because I want Angel played at my funeral. That song makes me cry, not literally sobbing but it makes tears roll. Everyone in the music industry knows that people that dont know music, ALWAYS say Jimi is the best guitarist ever.
Its like a stereotypical response.

I love him. But he is surely overrated. One of the sloppiest players ever.
 
Sure he played with his teeth, which isn't hard, and he lit his guitar on fire, oooo pretty. The fact that he was one of the first to bring these things mainstream made him look like a god to people who don't really know what guitar playing is all about.
 
Preach on brotha' man.

We're living in an age of rock music where everyone and their brother buys guitars, spenRAB all their free time playing it, but really doesn't throw anything out there that hooks.

It's all mass-produced and super polished. Or you have people like Stained and Nickleback who just so happened to have a guitar with nothing really original or deep.

Imhop, I believe that Jack White is the next great rock star...
