I posted an earlier question, "Why do people follow trends?" in the Style and Accessories section, and the basic gist of it was that those who follow trends do not have the confidence to start there own because they fear standing out and looking "weird" (which = insecure with who they are), and they really want to fit in with everyone else (which = conformist).
So, is this why people often paint those who are obsessed with fashion as shallow? They are obsessed with the opinions of other people and instead of thinking for themselves, decide to follow the group mentality of, "Everyone else thinks this is cool, so therefore it must be!"
It's weird, because I am very interested in fashion, yet I am not at all a conformist. I try to stand out. I WANT to be different, and I don't follow trends. Infact, I am very judgemental. I HATE those empire waist tops. They make everyone look fat. So the question is, why do people wear them? If something makes you look like you have a paunch stomach, why would you declare it "SOO cute!"?
