People who are anti-union are the biggest idiots ever

without union efforts, my entire system of work rules could be thrown aside at the whim of the company, which is a HUGE problem in an industry based on seniority where mobility is extremely limited. with union efforts, my work rules are protected through grievance processes.
 
What I mean is there isn't any competition. It's not like your city or town can look at another provider of fire protection services that may do the job better than your "company" can.

If you're looking at carpenters, electricians, machinists, and other skilled trades there are all kinRAB of companies both union and non-union in constant competition - which will eventually force the union shops to justify their higher rates or go out of business. The latter has been the trend for the past couple decades, though some locals are realizing this and doing something about it.
 
With the ludicrous amount of protection FD and PD unions employ, you should be blacklisted if you screw up badly enough to get fired.
 
Bullshit. Labor law here gives any employee the right to refuse work that might be unsafe or potentially dangerous with fear of reprisals. That is a LAW not something your union gave you.
 
and of course, the FAA re-authorization bill hinges largely on making sure that we can't change unionization rules to allow only those who give a fuck about their future to count in elections, rather than letting lazy nonvoters automatically count as "no" votes.

i dunno about other unions, im in the UBC, NYC carpenters union... i make good money and rightfully so... unskilled people are unable to produce quality work at a fast pace... the union itself will let in people who are no talent lazy assholes, but they dont last more than a day on the job... companies dont put up with some dipshit coming on the job and not knowing how to use his tools and produce... he gets his lay off check right there... then back to the out of work list he goes where he will be sitting home jerking off for ~6months before getting another call...

a good journeyman will end up staying with the same company because he works well for them and he enjoys working there. so in closing the union wont weed out shitty people but a union company will.
