People that applaud at the end of a film in the cinema

The first time I ever saw an audience clap at a film was when i saw the first spiderman film in london.

It must of annoyed me so much (the clapping that is) that i blanked it from my mind until i went to america and they will clap like it's the last film they will ever see.

note to future filmgoers - Don't clap at films, you look retarded when you do, the performers aren't actually in front of you.

I went to see Mamma Mia on the first weekend, not a singalong version just a normal screening and I have never seen anything like this in a cinema. Wild applause at the end of the film, clapping in time to Waterloo. i thought do these people realise they are at a film and not a live theatre show!

Exactly! I' the same age as you and the closest we ever got to anything like a trip to the cinema was watching an episode of Blackadder while studying the First World War!

Anyway, I have always found the idea of clapping at the cinema a bit odd, never felt the need to personally.

That was until last week when I saw Star Trek, I couldn't help but applaud it at the end, even if my missus did grab
my hanRAB and tell me to stop being such an unbearable geek.

Last time i saw this was on Sat when we went to see Wolverine! Not just a few claps this was a huge applause the guy was doing.

Ive seen it at The Dark Knight and at the end of all 3 LOTR films.

If people want to show their appreciation at the end of a movie then let them, what's the problem? It's the noisy, laser wielding a/holes who talk, text and phone during the movie who should be killed immediately.:D

When I went to see The Dark Knight some guy tried to start applause but everyone else just got up and headed for the doors while he was sitting clapping away to himself.

LOL, what a tit. It would be so funny if his little performance made it's way onto some dodgy pirate DVD , his shame immortalised for all to see. :D

I'm pretty sure that the studios would far more appreciate the audience paying for a second viewing rather than standing there clapping like a bunch of seals at a blank screen.

I'd never even heard of clapping in the cinema until the end of Mamma Mia were clapping just broke out, I must admit I joined it. It was a bit odd but felt good to have a unanimous audience showing how much they enjoyed it.

That happened when I went to see Mamma Mia - I was a little ashamed when my mother joined in :D :o

It's daft and pointless imo, just applauding a huge screen :D

see i thought it was a foreign thing, as they applauded in paris when i watched freaky friday and in the states they applauded RV with robin williams

Now lets be honest neither of them deserved any kind of ovation EVER, but never heard it in this country.

Maybe the closest thing to it was at the end of watchmen, when at the end one lad shouted, what a load of sh!t. I suppose its the same as shouting at the tele when watching sports, they cant hear you but its a way of expressing yourself!!

This applause happened during the film.I went to see Star Trek on Monday night. There was a scene that got a cheer & some applause.

It's the scene were Kirk & Sulu are falling towarRAB the ground & the Enterprise is trying to get a lock on them.At the last minute the Enterprise manages to beam them aboard. You know both characters aren't going to die.But it's the build in the scene of the Enterprise trying to get a lock on them that makes it work

The only time I experienced clapping was at the end of the dark knight. I didn't personally clap but nearly everyone in the cinema hall did (and it was a sell out).
