People Talking (etc.)While You Watch Films

This really annoys me!

One incident - I was watching Zodiac in the cinema with a group of Americans behind me. They talked on and off throughout the film, then when it got to the bit where Robert Downey Junior's character is seen living in a houseboat, I think in San Francisco - they really went into overdrive as they knew the area.

I couldn't easily change seats as that afternoon for some reason the cinema was pretty full and also apart from turning around to look at them I didn't want to create an international incident - I thought maybe this is just something Americans do: it's normal for them? Don't know.

What annoys you in the cinema?

This is the reason that I stopped going to the cinema regularly. It's expensive enough in London to go to the cinema without having the experience (and money) wasted by a bunch of half-wits that can't STFU for a couple of hours...

...or switch their damn mobiles off.

me too

and in answer to the original post, yes, americans do jibber on throughout the movie - the only time I've been to the cinema in this country and they havent, is when I went and watched "The Reader".

Can't stand it when people talk through a film at the cinema when others can hear them, wish they would just get thrown out with no refund.

People who turn up late, like missing first ten minutes and so on, should not let people in that late or buy the ticket for that showing. I don't care about the circumstance.

Also, I can't stand allocated seats, I like to sit where I want to thanks.

I hardly go to the cinema now, the last straw was some complete and utter moron letting off one of those stink bombs in the cinema. Totally ruined whatever film I was watching.

This is one of my biggest pet hates - there is nothing worse than trying to watch a film when someone behind is yabbering on. I have often shouted out "shut up", sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt.

We always have to pick our seats carefully when we go to the cinema, often sitting further nearer the front than up the back, as most people tend to head up the back of the screen. Don't understand why people pay the money to go to the cinema if they want to chat throughout as well answering the extremely urgent texts they get. It just ruins the film for everyone else.

That's exactly what I said to a bunch of rowdy teenagers in the cinema last year. They were getting progressively louder and louder and my patience was wearing thin until i finally snapped.

They were sitting right next to me, but I still stood up, turned to them and yelled that lovely phrase at them. They shut up pretty quick.

I also got a short applause from a few other members of the audience!

What I don't get is people who sit there sending text messages throughout a film. My best mate does this and whilst its an uninstrusive act (being that its silent) I cannot fathom why anyone would pay to go into a cinema and then miss half the film because they're too busy writing a text.
