You spent enough time justifying being mean to fast food workers that I bet you are pretty mean to them whenever you get the chance. At least they are working and providing a very popular service to the world. YOU do not have to buy food from people you think are beneath you, now do you? YOU can take your happy ass to a nice expensive restaurant for a sit down meal. She has a problem with rude people, not just average shoppers. And I don't blame her, I can't stand rude people either.
 
I read the whole thing. I don't have a problem with the ranting, I worked for 16 years in retail and customer service and I understand the need to rant. It just seems like you were blaming them for coming out at all. *shrugs shoulders*

And SteelAsp, I can't believe you think fast food workers are below you, what an elitist bullshit thing to say. You know I love you but wtf?
 
No, not blaming them, just venting. Holding all that shit in is bad.
And DG, that's exactly it. I have a lot of nice customers that I love to see no matter what the weather is like. I have a problem with the people who are coming through and taking their bad days out on me or my coworkers.
 
Actually, no, I've never been rude to anyone who works in fast food. I'm generally pretty tolerant and friendly to anyone who works in any kind of service industry. There was one time, I blew up at the bartender at a restaurant I used to frequent, because I could see the cooks in the kitchen doing something absolutely unacceptable to my burger, after I had to send the first one back because it wasn't cooked the way I asked for it. That was the one and only time I lost my temper with someone who was serving me food. I knew it wasn't the bartender's fault that the kitchen staff were fucking with my food, but I was pissed, because it used to be one of my favorite places to eat, and the service and quality has been going downhill fast over the last couple of years. I went back the next day and apologized to the bartender for losing my temper, but I haven't gone back to eat there. Those girls who worked in the kitchen though... Yeah, they lost their jobs.

As for fast food, I don't expect them to get my order right, because I don't like to be disappointed. I never make any special orders, and they still manage to fuck it up half the time, but as I said, when I get fast food, I'm in a hurry, and it's not worth my time to go back and bitch at a person who already hates their job, and me.

but in a regular restaurant, if I order my burger rare, and I get it well done, I will send it back, but I will do so politely the first time. If the second one is fucked up, then I'm going to start getting pissed, and I'll tell my server that I'm going to take my business elsewhere and I'm not paying for fucked up food. Or, I'll just leave the food on the table, and get up and leave if I haven't had any drinks.

In my previous post, I was simply taking a contradictory stance to the original post, but I meant most of what I said. I'm not the type of person to harass fast food workers, but if you settle for a shit job, and then complain about how shitty it is, you're a hypocrite, and I have no sympathy for you.
 
The way I handle it is I just call the manager. I don't fuck around with workers. Some people have to settle for shit jobs. I worked in fast food for about two weeks to make some extra Christmas cash when my kids were little. I hated it and customers are rude no matter what. Even when I worked at Dell, customers were rude.

One time, when my ex and the kids and I were at McDonalds, I watched a guy take his wife/girlfriend whatever tray and throw it on the counter and yell at the counter girl until she was about in tears. The manager did absolutely nothing. I was about two seconds away from yelling at the customer myself when he just turned and walked out the door, yelling like an asshole for his wife/girlfriend and kid to hurry up. People like that should be shot.
 
What's settling when it's the only place hiring when I was unemployed and had bills to pay? If I'm to go back to college as I want to and as you, oh so kindly, suggested earlier then I need money. I understood what I was getting into, but I didn't have much of a choice.
 
Its easy to say what an alternative is when you are not in, or have not had, experience in the same situation.

If you dislike your job so much why don't you find a better one? I'm sure you could get a job waiting tables at an actual restaurant or something while you attend school.

As for fast food, I avoid it as much as possible, even though I end up eating out for lunch 3-4 times a week. You're dealing with the absolute lowest common denominator of employed society; the bar for excellence is set low by the employer, so I have no idea why customers would expect competence. Like Steel, I don't make complicated orders or expect good service - I don't eat tomatoes, but I never ask for them to be removed because 99% of the time they aren't anyway. It's much quicker for me to just do it myself. Nor do I get rude with the workers for messing up my order. But, seriously, workers should be able to get orders out the window without fucking them up. It's not like the job requires a lot of brain power. If I'm getting fast food it's because I don't have time to order out and wait for my food; it usually means I'm going to have to eat in my car. So, yes, I do expect it to be fast and it does annoy me that very simple orders gets messed up so frequently.
 
I worked in fast food for a while. There were many parts of the job I enjoyed, including the 'help the pissed off customer' part. I've gotten some pretty bad ones, and I approached them as challenges. I've even made some of them walk out the door happy that they came in.


I know it's frustrating, but hang in there. You have to start somewhere, after all.
 
Jung, I expected you of all people to be able to read. I'm looking for a better job. I've applied at Circle K, and I'm going to turn in an application for U Gas. If I'm going to get out of fast food I'm going to get out of the food service industry all together. I've worked at a gas station before and I rather enjoyed that. And stop generalizing fast food workers. I work days, and we are genuinely dedicated to getting orders right and at most we have maybe two mistakes throughout an eight hour period. Our night shift doesn't care because it's all high schoolers who don't give a shit about anything but themselves and getting money to buy pot and shit, but we on the day shift do care. So don't act like you know all fast food workers.

And Kich, I've worked fast food for roughly six years. I've hung in there long enough. I too enjoy aspects of it, mostly working with the people, actually. I just get irritated with certain things and occasionally have to rant about it.
 
You've been working fast food longer than would be reasonably considered a "transitional period." I'm just wondering why you've gone so long without looking or finding.

And I simply listed my experiences. Fast food is not exactly an industry where excellence is generally emphasized or found. That's OK though, since it's fast food and people don't really expect it. I'm sure there are some decent workers who really care about their jobs, doing their best and the customer's experience, but my experiences tell me that they're in the minority.
 
I was a manager, and the best day was my last day when I told an irate customer "look, today is my last day since I have a better job starting tomorrow, so if you could be a little nicer I'd appreciate it"

She says "I'm surprised you can get a better job seeing how you messed up my order"

and I said "and I'm surprised anyone'd fuck you with a face like that, yet you have 4 kids following you. Funny how that works." :D

Yeah, I'm going to hell.
 
The joys of working fast food. I used to work at a little fast food joint, and I always hated it when a person would drive up in their diesel truck and not turn off the engine while I had a headset on.

But, you really need to get out of there. It sounds like you either aren't addressing the problem with the cold, or your management isn't taking care of it's employees. In the end, you could do a better job with better hours if you apply yourself to finding a new job.

Just keep your chin up and work your ass off for something better. It'll pay off in the end.
