To be eligible for a Pell grant, you must fill out a fafsa application. The amount your eligible is purely determined by your income (and family income if you're a dependent student) and assets, as well as the cost of attendance at your school. The maximum Pell grant for the 2009-2010 school year is $5,350 for the year. Some students with extreme financial need may also qualify for a few hundred dollars of the SEOG grant. In addition, depending on what you're studying, there are a few other grants available as well. You can find these on the fafsa website: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. Other than that, if you are an independent student you can qualify for up to $9,500 your freshman year of college (more for each additional year) in federal stafford loans. In addition, you may be able to find scholarships that you're eligible for. Good luck to you.
