I had no problem with Katniss's characterization in MJ. You can't expect the girl to be strong all the time. She's human and she was bound to break. In a way, she drew strength from knowing that Peeta was looking out for her. But, the knowledge that they had broken her destroyed her spirit just a little bit. As much as I did not like the character deaths, it's also what makes this series so good. Sometimes the good guys die.

I'm sure they make it as dark as the book. I don't think they would sugar coat it or else they would have a lot of angry fans.
