Pecan Allergy, but nothing else

I seem to have an allergy to pecans but no other nuts or food. I had a dessert with pecans at a restaurant then within minutes felt flush and a great deal of phlegm in my throat. I didn't associate it with the pecans until I ate the same dessert 6 months later with the exact same reaction. I eat almonRAB, cashews, and peanut butter almost daily with no ill effects. I seems to be only pecans. I used to love pecan pie but now I avoid all pecans and read ingredient labels carefully.

Is this odd or do others experience single-food allergies? I don't even really suffer from hay-fever.

While it's good that you're only allergic to pecans now, be careful with the other nuts. They share the same proteins and you could become allergic to them as well.

I wouldn't eat them every day or a lot of them if I were you. Maybe every once in while, just to be on the safe side. Take it from me, living with a nut allergy every day is a pain! You don't want to end up there!

You didn't say if you've had allergic reaction to pecans when eaten separately but I'm sure you tried them. Just thinking it could be something else in the pie. Good luck!

The culprit was a Cinnamon Oblivion at that Australian themed restaurant. Basically a big scoop of vanilla ice cream rolled in crushed pecans and smothered with caramel sauce and diced baked apples. Delicious! I really miss them!

Additionally, my brother in law is a manger there and told me every ingredient used.
