Pease help urgent game diffrence?

Okay i I finished kotor 1 and kotor 2 but does kotor 2 has to do with 1 because the say its a sequel.

like in 1 u are revan and u save the galaxy or are the sith lord but in 2 ur just a guy wit new mission and just save the world from malachor V

please help me and explain like the whole thing going on ITS TWO DIFFERNT STORY GOING ON AND THEY SAY ITS A SEQUAL (1,2)
 
Basically, they call it a sequal, one, because it still pertains to the star wars universe, and is in the same time period ( about 2000 years before the current republic). Second, they have the exact same gameplay, some controls, planets, etc... Yes, it is more of a spin-off of the original, but they call Halo Wars a prequal to Halo, when it is COMPLETELY different, but still in the same universe. These games are some of my favorites of all time and i hope i could help.
 
Okay, kotor 1 is canon. So is kotor 2. Kotor 2 takes place 5 years after the first kotor. Not long I know but yes, it is a sequel. You play as the exile in the second one while the first you are Revan(you knew this) so you are not the same guy but you are just as important. There is a whole bunch of backstory that I forgot so I cant tell you what happened between the two.
