Pearl, T-mobile, tethered modem

I love my blackberry! for some reason I totally forgot about tethering and just tried this out. After a few "ack! what step did I miss?!?!?!" it works! now I will literally have internet for free WHEREEVER I go right? Well, considering I stay within metro areas and there's always a signal on my phone right?

Yes, just hook the phone to the desktop and open desktop manager and keep it open! Follow the directions from OP and disable the current internet connection to make sure that your new "tether modem" connection is working.

I checked and did not find any other posts from you on this topic. Have you followed the steps in the thread to set up the modem? Before you launch the BB modem (Start>Connect to> Blackberry Modem) have you launched the dektop manager (or do you have device manager active)?
 
I tried to do this following all the instructions to tether with the pearl on T-Mobile and I can't get it to work I keep getting a error 692 on my cpu. What should I do? Can someone please help me!!!!
 
On your desktop with your BB connected and Desktop Manger running

Start>Control Panel> Phone and Modem Options>Modems(tab)
Highlight Standard Modem and click Properties> Diagnostics Tab> Query Modem

I want to see if the first 2 responses are

Jumping ahead...

When you go to Start>Connect to> Blackberry Modem
You should launch a sign on screen. User name and password should be blank, and dial should say *99#
Once you confirm this is what you see then hit dial. What happens?
 
After I followed the first set of directions to try to tether my pearl I got a error message. It says "the modem failed to respond. Make sure it is properly connected and turned on. If it is an internal modem or is connected, verify that the interrupt for the port is properly set.
I'm lost.
