i have a bb pearl 8100 w/ tmo and i have bb unlimited service. if i use my pearl as a modem will i incur additional charges or is it covered with the bb unlimited service?

You don't have your provider listed in your profile, so there's no way to answer you.

Even if you did, you can't hold a member to what they say, so call your provider and ask them!

GaryF is correct and you could also check out this thread. It details the steps fairly well. Welcome to the Stacks. Don't be shy to ask questions if you have them.

While from what I can see on t-Mobile's site, it does appear that they don't charge for tethering, but I'd still confirm with them. I ran up a $35 bill just testing tethering (AT&T) - connect, browse to Google, disconnect a few times. Luckily, I was doing this FOR work, and they covered the expense, but it can get very expensive very fast (I'm talking hundreds of dollars - even thousands), but it's your choice.

Jdella the other posters are correct. Tmobile provides free tethering and does walk you through setting it up. They even help you get third party apps running (like sharing the apn settings) even though its third party. It was one of the reasons I went with T-mobile and have yet to switch over. Between cheaper unlimited messaging (sms/mms), bis and free tethering, I save quite a bit every month.

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~They are all right T-Mobile does a whole walk through and stay on the line with you until you get connect and there is no additional charge if you have the unlimited data plan.

i have another question. while the phone is in "modem mode" will i be able to make/recieve phone calls? Will i get disconnected if i get a phone call while being tethered? BTW this is on a BB 8100 pearl. thanks

I know that you can get phone calls, and I've even received and checked email while using it as a tethered modem. Dont remember surfing while on the phone though...but I know it got the call.
