pda/blackberry and voice dialing

I had almost made my decision on a blackberry 8703 but I ran into a
snag.

A feature that is absolutely necessary in my view is voice dialing.
I've discovered that it may be possible on a blackberry but I'd have
to buy the software to accomplish it. Can anyone make a recommendation?

My fall back is one of the palm phones but I've heard complaints about
volume, lock ups, and failures.

Which provider? What are your other needs (keyboard type, etc)?

The Blackberry pearl has voice dialing, but is only available on TMO or Cingular. The Blackberry 8800 (full keyboard) will be available "soon".

My Verizon plan is going to expire in a week but I'm relatively happy with them.

First, I want a decent phone with bluetooth and voice dialing
Second, I want email and internet (with a better browser than my V710 has)
I'd prefer a full keyboard and an ability to open word files

The Blackberry 8100 will do all of that, except it does not have a full keyboard. Suretype is easy to adapt to for most. Check it out at blackberryforums.com.

The Blackberry 8800 will be out in January, but I am guessing you do not want to wait that long.

I learned a long time ago to no buy on a promised solution. If it is not currently available then it is not available.

Maybe another approach is needed...Is there a reason not to buy a palm or a similar device?

PS I've found most sales people in the stores to be only marginally competent. All the display units are nonfunctional and the only phone they can show you is the one the clerk has in his pocket. Would you buy a car or a computer that way? I think not.

I agree with you about the sales people and the method of purchase. Although there is a huge difference in buying a car, computer, or cell phone, your point has merit.

There are many devices on the market that will do what you want. OS stability is one of the differences and Blackberry is very stabile. If you want a good email experience, blackberry is a good choice. But if your needs tend more towards media, you may want to do some more research. The 8100 has media functions, but would not be the primary reason to choose that phone.

To my knowledge, voice dialing is similar in all phone offering it and it is the greatest!

I went to a sprint store

They claimed that voice dialing is a $5 add on to any of the black berry's except they were not sure which blue tooth headset would be needed. They thought it was headset dependent.

Cingular has a voice dialing add on; perhaps Sprint does too. What I have on my BB Pearl 8100 is in the phone software. I am sure both work well.

I made the leap and got the 8703 from verizon. I have 15 days to decide to keep it or not but so far it looks really good. Excellent phone reception.

I downloaded a voice command free trial. It seems to work but with some quirks. For example, It does not want to understand the button on my old headset.

can you please tel me how you are doing with the voice command software and which one it is? i just got the 8703e for verizon and need voice dialing as well ty.

I downloaded the software listed on the handago site. It is worthless. It does not work through the headset meaning I have to fiddle with the BB while driving my car to make a phone call. I've uninstalled the software.
