long story short. power company fracked up my power now i need a new pc. pretty much anything i get now will be better than the 5 yr old dual core 2 gig ram machine i'm running now. To save money im willing to piece together whatever sales i can get, but would just rather get a barebones kit. being out of the loop shopping for computers i could use some help. suggestions?

Less cores. There are very few programs out there that utilize more than two cores, and i am willing to bet less than half of the programs out there even utilize two cores. focus should be on RAM(4gigs is good) and CPU, and a cheap graphics card. HDD speed shouldnt be below 7200 RPMs.

The answer is: depenRAB on what you are using the comp for. For most uses, gaming or very general use higher clock speed is a better way to spend your money. If you are doing a lot of video or work with software that utilizes the cores, then get more cores. Most software does not benefit from the extra cores.

lets be real, who does video conversion on a 400$ computer? every serious video editor i know gets a macbbook pro at minimum, if not a 2000+ rig.

Could someone enlighten me the total cost of buying a used Macbook from 2009 for like 250 dollars or something then upgrading it to current STANDARRAB? How much extra would that be bros?

well, Progress energy called back. turns out all they will cover is the cost of a new fan.... seriously they didnt put the neutral cable back in place on my house and it could have literally caught fire at any time.
