PC Suite, NSU, and Vista

I?ve searched this topic but found differing answers. I want to flash my N80 with the just-released firmware update, and I can?t do it OTA - the operation is cancelled by the server each time I try.

I?m running Vista Home Premium with no dual-boot capability. Nokia doesn?t support Vista and won?t say when it will, but nevertheless some people have been able to use certain features of PC Suite 6.82, which of course was written for previous versions of Windows. I?m most worried about my system hanging during the flash due to driver incompatibility.

Has anyone here actually updated their firmware on any Nokia phone by cable connection to a Vista machine?

Well, the experiences of a few other early adopters of Vista encouraged me to try PC Suite. The program, with its several drivers and components, installed without a hitch. But when I tried to back up my N80, I received an error, and the program exited. This happened repeatedly even after applying a few tweaks I had learned about.

I decided not to pursue it further and uninstalled PC Suite. Even if I were able to get Backup to work, I?d be reluctant to flash the firmware. Don?t want to brick a perfectly good phone. It is suggested on the Nokia Update boards that the next release of PC Suite, allegedly in April, will be Vista-compatible. I?ll wait.

I can?t help commenting that Nokia, which is one of the world?s top companies, could do a better job with its PC software. Many other software suppliers were working on Vista-compatible versions long before the rollout of Vista. They were ready on D-Day, January 29. Nokia should spend less on those fancy Flash ads featuring anorexic models who are supposed to the essence of Euro-chic, and spend more on first-class programmers for the PC Suite team.

Lots of apps aren't fully Vista compliant, yet. Look at Apple's windows apps...One of the prices of being an early adopter. This is why I'm waiting before I apply my Vista update

I'm not sure my laptop will run smooth with it I've got 2gigs of RAM but the processor is an AMD Turion 64 clocked at 1.6GHZ. Hope that's enough..

I upgraded to vista a week ago. I only used the lifeblog, and that seems to work without a hitch. I can test out the PC Suite to see if things work.

The minimal system requirements for Vista Home Premium are shown here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/editions/systemrequirements.mspx

According to those specs, your processor is fast enough, and you have more than enough RAM. But it's a good idea to download and run the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor, which is referenced on that page.

Once installed, Vista can be tweaked to reduce the system load. For example, you can turn off the Aero eye candy and run Vista Basic graphics, which are quite satisfactory and similar to XP's. And you can turn off a number of other Windows features that are enabled by default but may not be necessary in any given user's particular case.

Also check the manufacturer's download pages for the make and model of your laptop. Vista comes with a vast supply of drivers on the DVD, but your manufacturer may have better ones available, as well as Vista-compliant programs to replace the ones that shipped with your computer.

Wirelessly posted (Series 60: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Symbian OS; Nokia E61/0618.06.05; 9730) Opera 8.65 [en])

The problem you are having is a 5 letter word... starts with 'V' ends with 'A' and has an 'IST' in the middle

I am running Vista Enterprise on a Dell GX280 (3.2Ghz P4/512 RAM) - it runs at the same speed as Windows XP for me (well a tiiiny bit slower, but I don't really perceive a difference in my day to day work)

Hi,

PC Suite under Vista is really flaky some things work and other things don't and trying to update a phone would be really risky IMHO. When I've run the update software it detected my E61 and then dropped the connection.

Nokia not having a update for Vista at this point is just stupid since the RTM and release to businesses has been available for a few months now, heck even the free version of AVG Anti virus is Vista compatible.

My next device will be a Windows Mobile or Sony Ericsson device and not a Nokia. It's bad enough to have to put up with the crappy cable that Nokia supplied that disconnects at the drop of a hat for no apparent reason, but to not have a stable sync software is the last straw for me.

512 RAM? XP Sucks up 256 or so. How much does Vista grab? Initially they were saying that 2gigs was the minimum you should upgrade with. Not microsoft of course but beta testers. I just figured we were all running w/ 2gigs. Your processor is easily fast enough to support it but i'm surprised it's running smooth with such limited RAM.

You are trying to access the internet, cancel or allow? -- LOL
I got a number of cancel or allows the first day I used vista

512 of RAM does seem a bit low. I have another 512 in memory I have yet to install - maybe I will install it to compare speeds

yeah...i heard minimally you should have at least 1 gig of ram in there to run smoothly without problems, that's what i have, everything looks good. on another note however, nokia is not the only company that isn't up to date, se pc suite has the same problem as well, and i'm sure they're both gonna update soon. i wish i had hadn't upgraded to vista yet, because it is not fully supported, however my comp crashed and i had no choice...oh well

I've been able to work with it for a week on my Vista Home Premium laptop, but since this morning, it's giving me the same problem i have with my XP SP2 home edition, it doesn't allow me to connect via USB and BT, saying to uninstall and install again..I'm goin nuts...Since basically the PC suite is the only way i know how to install apps. Can anyone help?

those that wants to run Nokia PC Suite in Vista, just wait a while... although some are able to run NPCS 6.82 in Vista others are having problems, the next NPCS should be out soon and is Vista compatible...

ive had probs,
whenever i connect my e65 into pc suite mode id get the blue screen from vista ultimate!
so i dont use the nokia software anymore untill they make it work 100% with vista
