password/new phone

Please forgive these very basic questions:

1) when I signed up for my first cell phone a few months ago thru t-mobile, I was advised by the t-mobile salesman to retrieve my messages by pressing and holding down the 1 button
 
check with t-mobile first if the phone still under warranty and if you have a freind who has 33 series phone or same phone, just barrow the battery for a moment and put it to your cell phone just to see if the phone will turn on again. but most of the dct4 cell phone once they get wet the lcd will go first.
