Yes many movies are violent, but they did not have a sinister brainwashing agenda did they? Big difference.

If you cant see that its a movie to try and convert your very naive, go to America like I have done and see what effect that movie had on people their.

Lol, you are a bit free with your insults. I neither have the time or money to go to America to see its effect - as a Brit I know many people who have seen the film and I didn't get this buzz that everyone walked out a born again Christian.

And re: Mel Gibson (a man who I dislike plenty of things about) he's hardly the archetypal rightwing repub fundamentalist. He has recently come out with this gem of an attack on President Bush (from wikipedia)

Film star and director MEL GIBSON has launched a scathing attack on US President GEORGE W BUSH, comparing his leadership to the barbaric rulers of the Mayan civilisation in his new film APOCALYPTO.
The epic, due for release later this year (06), captures the decline of the Maya kingdom and the slaughter of thousanRAB of inhabitants as human sacrifices in a bid to save the nation from collapsing.
Gibson reveals he used present day American politics as an inspiration, claiming the government callously plays on the nation's insecurities to maintain power.
He tells British film magazine Hotdog, "The fear-mongering we depict in the film reminRAB me of President Bush and his guys".

but if there is a god and jesus he could of been able to do anything so walking with a cross would be possible even though he had been beaten up so bad

but for a normal person of course know one could be beaten up so bad and make it

ive got the film and i think its very good im 50 50 untill you can prove one or the other

are you on something well its had no affect in the uk so it must tell you something about America

if its brainwashing film it would never been put on tv

now let me gues you are pro evolution even though that cant be proved and let me guess no matter what someone tells you you will disagree

It's through our own failings that millions of people have died. Just because you don't understand the film and the true significance of the resurrection doesn't mean that you can try and brainwash people into believing that it isn't true. There is a lot of evidence and many eyewittnesses but sadly you appear to have over looked that. O ye of little faith! There is proof that Jesus existed and there is proof that his death took place. Many eyewitnesses saw Jesus atfer his death. Is there anything that can deny this? Surely in a court of law, the evidence for this case would be greater than that against?

LOL I was expecting a flood of excuses but not to that extent. Well done you just killed any doubt i might have had that I was wrong. Its also good to see so many people assuming things about me, but why doesn

really got to laugh at that do you really think its only one person who looks at whats good to go on tv and whats not

please think the people who think its a brain washer really neeRAB to explain in detail why it is

i watched it loaRAB of times and im thinking maybe there is a god and this has made me open my eyes up a bit more and it will make me do some research on this

but its not going to make non belivers into belivers just by watching something

please be serious and think what you are saying now i watch alot of films and so far not seen anything that i would say is A BRAIN WASHER

people who do say this are people who might not want to belive there might be someone higher than us

I'm with you on this. Watched it last night and just posted something similar on the other thread. The violence is just disgusting and the majority of it completely unnecessary. I didn't come away with any message at all, just thinking I wish I'd never watched it. I don't see any point to it at all.

The programme on ITV about Mary Magdelene was much more interesting.

It was unnecessary for the moral yes. But for Gibson it was vital that he disgusted people as much as his imagination could muster, as he was trying to anger people into an emotional response and belief, it might not have worked as he would have wished on everyone, but he knew it would on many. Anyone who thinks this is just a movie about history with no other agenda than what Gladiator had, neeRAB to wake up and smell the guilt, blood guts and psychology.

Watch Gibson's new movie Apocalypto for more insight into Gibson

still lol but im not going on any further...

oyea i have no belifs i said im 50 50 no one can prove god is real and know one can prove the evoultion theory

good word THEORY thats all it is in both cases its a opinion, or a speculation

People have the option to watch the film. Nobody is forcing them and they can turn off whenever they want. This film is for christians and non-christians. It visualises the description of events in the Bible (maybe more extreme) and helps those to truly understand the pain that Jesus went through in order to redeem the world. Mel Gibson has said on many occasions that he felt guided by God to make this film, that more people can understand this sacrifice as faith is more difficult for people these days, it seems!

I understand the suffering Jesus suffered as much as anyone, I don't need to be psychologically bullied into knowing. I am not disputing his suffering. I am questioning why he made this movie, and its obvious its to manipulate peoples beliefs and work on their conscience. Its sinister.

Most people have the free will to watch it or not yes, but as I stated already in my previous posts people are forcing people to watch it "for their own spiritual good" and many watch this movie thinking its just another Hollywood movie based on a good story and history, to then find its got little to no story to it at all, just graphic and over the top torture and suffering, so its not strictly true they watch this with an all knowing awareness of what they are going to watch.

So because Gibson said God guided him to make the film it makes it any more justifiable and real? Bush also felt guided by God to go into a war and kill thousanRAB.

It might just be me personally, but id have thought one would become instantly sceptical of any intentions of someone who claimed God is talking to them or guiding them, being many psychos and serials killers have said the same thing. But then that

Oh dear. And there was me thinking it was going to be a good film. I love learning about the mysteries of the Mayans and Aztecs, but shortly after reading your posts I realised what he's going to have done to it. :(

Apocalypto is visually a good movie with some strong acting, and he has done a good job on making you feel like your back into them times with them, just like with The Passion, but only if you can tolerate Gibson

I fast-forwarded through it as I am not very interested in this mythos. It reminded me of Last House on the Left because that also tried to depict human cruelty without flinching.

It's also interesting to compare it with the Narnia film, which was aimed at children so avoided graphic violence. It also avoided overt Christian imagery such as crosses. However, it did carry Christian messages such as learned helplessness, the idea that you cannot save yourself but have to be redeemed by another more powerful being, etc. Lewis once wrote that he intended it, not to convert children to Christianity directly, but to create a christ-shaped hole in them so they could be converted more easily when they were older.
