Partial Network failure In Phoenix (down towers?)

On Friday 10/3, almost all Cricket phones within about a mile of our location in Mesa, AZ (zip 85201) stopped working, we could not make or receive calls nor get 611 or *228 on many phones, including original cricket phones, & flashed phones and PDA;s.

We could drive down the street and they would work.

Cricket denied any knowledge of this problem, Today we still have many phones that did work on Thursday that are still unable to reach 611 or *228 - we eventually get call failed, yet some cricket phones seems to keep working.

I imagine that a tower is down causing network congestion, what I can't figure out is why some phones seem to work most (or all) the time.

Does PRL have anything to do with what local towers I can access. I have tried loading different prl's 1039,1040, 1007,1009 and it doesnt seem to make a difference,

Any ideas on what influences whether a particular phone will work? And how can i get the real scoop on what is down at Cricket.

cricket is full of it there is two towers we were working on out there and they were both cricket and verizon towers. the reson you are able to get some to work nd some not is due to the nuraber of users on the tower the tower is restricting it to only 100 customers at anyone time till we get the switches replaced. the issues will be resolved on monday before 5pm. it is hard to get big items to be delivered asap on the weekend cricket knows about the issue but will not disclose it but that is the reason and the explination :P)

WchrisEG thanks very much for the reply.

Having designed telecomm (data) networks for many years I figured there had to be a multiple failure to cause such chaos. Yet nobody could get any info from Cricket and my customers where throwing it back in my lap. I lost some sales as a result and a lot of time trying to troubleshoot. Sometimes had to drive down the street to test a phone.

One additional Question:
Based on your answer and the conditions it sounRAB like that 100 limit is based on nuraber of ESN's connected and once you are connected (power on or enter the area) you will stay connected until you power off or leave the area? Is that correct?

And is there anyplace I can get a tower map (I realize that some carriers might feel this confidential).

i dont know for sure why only 100 users can use it at anyone time. but the told me the problem should be fixed buy now but i am not for sure the can just be telling me that :)

Cingular has an internal webpage for outages based on the type. Whether internal IT type router problems, or area wide network customer affecting outages. It was nice, depending on the type of ticketing system a carrier uses most employee's can find the ticket nuraber and just track updates via that ticket.

Sometime Monday afternoon (Oct 6) the system seemed to be working much better in our area. Seems like close to normal but I still need to check a few more phones.
